Places to See in Gangtok

Rumtek Monastery famous among the Buddhist communities is located about 24 km away from the main street of Gangtok. Originally known as the Dharma Chakra Center this monastery is must visit place for Tibetan cultures. There is a main shrine temple in the center and is blessed to be situated at one of the most peaceful places of Gangtok. It is easily accessible by bus or jeep. Apart from the luxurious rambling green landscape and pleasant weather the place is also known for its smiling people and Buddhist institutions.
Do Dhul Chorten
The top of the Do dhul chortan is visible from various places of Gangtok. Located at a walkable distance from the main town this place host a huge stupa of Buddha with a golden dome at the top. The place was believed to behaunt by evil spirits due to which many people died. Later Guru Rinphoche came here to meditate and made this a holy place. The stupas are surrounded by 104 rotating wheels that are the prayers wheels with mantras inscribed inside it. This Chorten is one of the most important and biggest Chorten of Sikkim.
Hanuman Tok dedicated to Hanuman is one of the most beautiful places in Gangtok. Located 10 km from the main town Hanuman tok lies on the way to Yorks am and Lachung. This place has amazing weather. The area is quaint and is the best place to spend some quite time with your family and friends.Locals people often visit the place during the week-ends for picnic or hangout.
Tashi view point
The Tashi View Point ofGangtok is quite famous among the tourists. This view point provides some spectacular view of the Mt. Kanchenjunga and other mountains. One can also view several monasteries like phodong. The view point id located at the top of the market complex near the Mg Marg.
This lake is the biggest lake in the town located at an altitude of 12000 feet and roughly 40 kilometers away from Gangtok. This place should be visited by every Indian once in their lifetime. The best time to visit this place is in the month of December to late February when the lake gets frozen and offers its visitors an unforgettable experience. You can ride on the Yak and enjoy the ride on the snow covered roads and the view the beauty of the nature.
