Places to See in Kalimpong
Mac Farlen Church
The church was constructed in 1891. Since then it became the landmark of Kalimpong. This magnificent and beautiful building was built by Scottish Missionaries. This is amongst the top places of interests in West Bengal. The Church was read in ten languages that made it a talk of the town. The languages read are Nepali, Bengali, Bodo, Lepcha, Hindi, Sanskrit, Tibetan, English, Chinese, and Urdu.
Tsonga Gumba is the oldest Bhutanese monastery in the town which symbolizes the Buddhist culture. This gumba was popular in the entire district of Darjeeling which was built by the early Bhutanese rulers of the town. The gumba was built around 1600s.
Nature Interpretation Center
It is an Ecological museum built by the forest department of Darjeeling In 1990. This is one of the learning center of Kalimpong whish has images and samples of beetles, and butterflies and extinct species of animals.
Zang Dhok Palri Phodang 1976
This is also referred as Durpin Monastery. This is the largest monasteries of Kalimpong and was sanctified by Dalai lama himself in 1976. It is located 1372 mt atop the Drupin Hill. This monastery offers the dazzling view of the mighty Kanchenjunga and the awesome view of the town.
Located few kilometers from the main town, the museum is a place of interest fro those who are keen to know the culture and history of Lepcha heritage. Also, the museum features various original musical instrument of Lepcha and articles of worships.
The Pine View Nursery
Known by famous Cactus nursery, this nursery has curved into one of the major tourist interest. Though the nursery is situated at the outskirts of the town the nursery is home for the 15000 species of cacti. Few of the varieties of cacti are expensive and can range up to lakhs. This is an ideal place for plant lovers and naturalists.
One of the many hills of the district this hill is a favorite picnic spot for the locals and visitors. This hill gives the massive few of the Kanchenjunga. Deoali hill is run and operated by the tourism department and offers a small resort for the visitors.
Lava and Loley Gaon
These are a series of small tourists spots of Kalimpong located few kilometers away from the town. These villages are situated at high elevation and the weather is foggy and chilly. Locals often visit these places for passing their leisure times with families and friends. There spot is itself a beauty with sprinkling river flowing through the forests and huge rocks.
This is the top attractions of the place which is visited by numerous tourists who come from several place of the country. This spectacular mount town is a vital flourish producing hub of India. Some other exotic flowers that are cultured here are amaryllis, lilies, roses, dahlias, gerbera and cacti. There are records of nurseries located here which is hoarded by scores of tourists to take pleasure in the sprinkled scenic beauty of blossoming buds.
